Microsoft Office 365 News for December 2011
Microsoft Office 365, the cloud productivity, calendaring, File Storage, E-Mail and teleconferencing program, has increased its’ reach in November to over 22 new countries. New countries include Argentina, Iceland, Taiwan, South Africa, and Indonesia. Office 365 is of special interest to small businesses, because it provides sophisticated server services not normally affordable or practical for small businesses, and the technical responsibility of keeping these servers running rests with Microsoft.
Not only are small businesses using Office 365, but the worlds’ big businesses are also signing up. Microsoft states that more than 40 of the top 100 Interbrands list are now using Office 365. Recently, Microsoft signed up Campbell Soup Company and Marie-Claire as customers. They are signing up in order to enable seamless communication and collaboration between their teams as well as reduced expenses for technology compared to hosting the same services themselves. The savings is a combination of not having to own the servers and buy the software and not having to maintain the technical staff to keep the servers running. For a low monthly expense, Office 365 delivers the following four services:
Exchange Email Hosting
SharePoint Server Document Storage
Lync Corporate IM, teleconferencing and video teleconferencing solution
Microsoft Office Subscription featuring the latest version of Microsoft Office
Another great feature of the Office 365 services is that they follow the compliance needs of your business. The Exchange Email hosing features a legally compliant archive, and the entire suite is rated compliant for ISO 9000, HIPAA, and Sarbanes Oxley. Using these compliant services will protect your data and possibly reduce your insurance premiums. Office 365 uses 256 bit encryption, the same standards used for online banking.
Office 365 is always coming out with new innovations as well. Some of these new features include:
Support for Mac.
Support for Windows Phone 7.5.
SharePoint Business Connectivity Services, allowing SharePoint to get data from various enterprise applications such as CRM.
